Can A Cooling Rack Be Used in the Oven?

January 13, 2016

Short answer: YES! As long as it's made with high quality stainless steel.

Most racks on the market are made of iron and then covered with a thin coating of chrome. These type of racks are the cheapest to manufacture and usually the lowest quality. The coating can eventually chip off and when it does, it could end up in your food. Yuk! Not to mention that manufacturers warn against using chrome-plated racks in high heat conditions.

And if the coating starts to wear away, the iron bars become exposed to air and water, making the rack very susceptible to rust. While it may SEEM economical to buy a chrome-coated iron rack, in the long run you will probably be replacing them more often. Not to mention the chance that you may be exposing you and your family to flaking chrome and rust.

So what's the alternative?

100% high grade 304 stainless steel, like all Ultra Cuisine cooling rack, so there is no worry of rusting or coatings flaking off into your food. 304 grade stainless steel is safe for oven use to 575F degrees which means you can use it confidently for roasting, baking, grilling, smoking, drying, and bbq, due to the high heat tolerance of 100% stainless steel construction.

We created the Ultra Cuisine cooling rack to fit perfectly flat inside standard sheet pans without hanging over the pan edges like other racks that are just too long, causing uneven lop-sided cooking. And all Ultra Cuisine racks are dishwasher-safe, oven-safe and offer long lasting superior quality.

With 93% 5-star ratings on Amazon (higher than any other rack brand in it's class!) we're confident we've created the best racks possible. Here is an excerpt from just one of many reviews from thrilled customers:

Restaurant Grade - 5 Stars

"...the size is an important thing because most 13 x 18 baking pans have sloped sides so if you want to use a grid in it the grid has to be sized properly. These people did their homework and it fits perfectly inside my existing 13 x 18 pan, which is heavy-duty commercial-grade stainless steel.

One feature I like is that it has six 1” feet and they are not welded to the grid but rather to a heavy-duty crossbar that helps prevent the grid from warping. Most grids only have four feet and aren’t usually as high. The height helps drippings from splashing back up onto the food and also allows a lot more air circulation while cooking.

One more thing, this also serves very well as a cooling rack, but that’s not why I bought it. I’m impressed that every wire is ground and polished so there are no sharp edges..."
